Enter the Newsroom... not as sexy a title as Enter the Dragon. Nevertheless, we haven't a dragon on this week's episode of the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle. But what we do have are a couple of heroes that go by the names Daryn and Perry! And we have loads of #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews. The boys discuss the unfortunate news of the passings of Nikolai Volkoff and Brian Christopher, and an injury to NXT superstar Aleister Black. In lighter news, the contracts and careers of some major players are hot topics at this time, like UFC-bound Brock Lesnar, recently-returned Daniel Bryan and WWE-bound (but All-In) Rey Mysterio! But that is not all, #dearlisteners! Daryn and Perry reveal all of the currently confirmed participants in the 2nd Annual Mae Young Classic; WWE's women's wrestling tournament. Learn about the international and indy flavors filling up this bracket! The boys play this news-ticker fast and loose, but as always, they call it right down the middle as only they can!

Matt Riddle me this, #dearlisteners: who is headed NXT way!? Looks like the Altered Bro himself is on a collision course for Takeover Brooklyn 4 next month, and that is a cause for celebration. But in all reality, it's uproar what comes WWE way the night after at SummerSlam! It seems Vince and friends just can't get enough of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, and our heroes Daryn and Perry have more than a couple of thoughts on the matter. Not only that, but WWE announces "Evolution," and all-women's PPV/Network Special for October 2018. And that would be great. Except that they're already patting themselves on the back for it. The boys tackle that sticky situation as well. So, you came for the headlines, but we're betting you stick around for the FEST Wrestling: XMas in July 2 review! That's right, folks, Daryn was LIVE, in-person at FEST, and on this week's episode he sits down with Perry to talk about every headlock and wristlock, every high spot, and maybe even your dog, Spot. Our heroes discuss the FEST debuts of Tripp Cassidy, Kevin Ku and Allie Kat, the nastiness of that snake Serpentico, the fight for championship gold as well as respect between Effy and Saieve Al Sabah, and two other surprises... find out FINALLY "what's in the box!?" AND who came back!? You thought he was a goner, but [radio edit] came back, he just wouldn't stay away! For all the delights of punk party equality wrestling from a country & western saloon in a swamp in Florida, you have come to the right place. You have come to hear the tales of FESTivities on the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle, The Whole Ref'n Show!

It's a FESTastic episode this week of the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle, #dearlisteners! Our heroes Daryn and Perry have a couple of special guests this week. One half of the commentary team for FEST Wrestling, former WWE commentator and Tony Schiavone's MLW Fusion broadcast partner, Rich Bocchini returns to talk about this weekend's FEST Wrestling: XMas in July 2 with the boys! It's always fun when Rich joins Daryn and Perry to discuss the hottest and wildest, most groundbreaking independent wrestling organization in the world. It's usually pretty funny too. The three break down the card as it stands, heading into the show emanating from Gainesville, Florida this weekend! Hear all about the wrestlers, their statuses, the matchups, the speculation, the analysis, and even some dad-jokes! Once Rich hangs up the phone, the boys take Fest Wrestling World Champion Effy off of hold and have one hell of a conversation. The "Golden Boy of Grab-Ass" himself drops some knowledge and throws some shade at his XMas in July 2 opponent, Saieve Al Sabah. You DO NOT want to miss this, as Effy makes his real feelings known about Saieve inside the ring and out. And it doesn't stop there, #dearlisteners! Effy takes his time while breaking down the "behind the times" independent wrestling mainstays (organizations and performers!). Effy continues the tirade, turning his vitriol to WWE superfan (and Effy's upcoming Punk Pro Wrestling opponent) Izzy, and the "journeyman" himself, Francisco Ciatso! You have not heard shit talked like this, maybe ever! "The Feminist Icon" puts children and vets, promoters and layabouts all on blast, and ONLY HERE, folks! Also on this episode, Daryn and Perry discuss Hulk Hogan's reinstatement to the WWE Hall of Fame, shocking (spoiling!) headlines from NXT and the complete results and breakdown of the WWE Extreme Rules network special! It's a busy and packed episode, folks, and we demand that you not miss a second!

Is it "ultimate" (UFC?). Is it "rock n roll" (Bi-Polar Rock n Roller?). Is it "auto-racing" (G1 Special?). Or is it "extreme" (...Extreme Rules?). It's all of the above, #dearlisteners, and it's all a part of the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle. Our heroes Daryn and Perry take you to UFC 226 where WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar entered the octagon to challenge the new UFC Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Cormier. Then we take you on Mauro Ranallo's mental health journey through life as the boys discuss Showtime's documentary "Bi-Polar Rock n Roller." And then to the wrestling action that was this week, emanating from the legendary Cow Palace outside of San Francisco, California. New Japan Pro Wrestling continues its outreach to North America with a tremendous show on AXS TV & the NJPW World streaming service. Hear the boys talk Kenny VS Cody 2, the fate of the Bullet Club, what it's like seeing "The Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada without a belt, and the latest on the condition of the injured IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Hiromu Takahashi! And then Daryn and Perry go head-to-head, making predictions for WWE Extreme Rules 2018! Who will win? WIll anything actually be extreme? Tune in and find out what the boys think before you sit down and watch the show! You'll be glad to have the scoop, the inside news, the hunches, and bunches of laughs on the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle, The Whole Ref'n Show!

Doldrums? No doldrums here, #dearlisteners! Though it's an explosive weekend in pro-wrestling, the week leading up to this episode was about as slim as it gets. Nevertheless, our heroes Daryn and Perry bring you a jam-packed episode as always. When we say "must listen" or "DO NOT MISS," we mean it. Our heroes are genius machines that bring you the ultimate in #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews each and every week! This slow week is no exception! The boys drop the knowledge on Ruby Riott's injury, Brat Wyatt's car crash (of horrors?) and a look at the ins and outs of Ronda Rousey's UFC Hall of Fame induction. But then, Daryn and Perry (who's Adam?) look back 20 years at the WCW World Title match between Hollywood Hogan and Bill Goldberg, aka the Jackhammer heard 'round the world! Not only is it astonishing that those events happened then and there, but it's astonishing to our heroes that two decades have passed since then was there! And before we let you go this week, we get our first mention of FEST Wrestling: XMas in July 2! What do our heroes have in store for FEST family and all lovers of independent wrestling!? DO NOT MISS it! It's the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle!

Twenty years of hell, #dearlisteners! It's been twenty years of hell since Mankind went flying off the top of a gigantic cage, changing pro-wrestling forever. To open things up this week, our heroes Daryn and Perry look back at WWE's (then WWF) King of the Ring 1998 pay-per-view spectacular to commemorate Mick Foley's near-death experience at the hands of the Undertaker (or his own poor decision-making). The boys also mention some of the other matches and performers from that night oft-overlooked in this one-trick pony of a PPV. They say fortune favors the bold, but sometimes history remembers the stupid! The boys also mourn the death of Matt Cappotelli, of WWE/MTV Tough Enough fame, following his long fight with cancer. Also on the news-ticker is Shinsuke Nakamura's attack by a Police K-9 unit, Real 1 (FKA Enzo Amore) dropping some knowledge on his WWExit, some injury news on Lars Sullivan and the possible future FOX home of NXT! And then the boys cross the pond for two nights of WWE/NXT UK Championship Tournament action. Daryn and Perry discuss every bout of the tournament and all the other thrilling surprises and title matches that filled up two evenings of world-class wrestling in the Royal Albert Hall in London, England! From "The Modfather" to "Liverpool's No.1," Moustache Mountain to the Scottish Supernova, our heroes tackle the talent of the British Isles and beyond from this epic 2-night tournament. DO NOT MISS! This is the ultimate in #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews, because it is the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle!

The unfortunate passing of Leon White gives The Whole Ref'n Show the sad opportunity to reflect on the career of his alter ego, Big Van Vader. Meanwhile, the news ticker doesn't stop, and our heroes Daryn and Perry bring you the latest on the WWE release of Big Cass, the severe injuries of Sami Zayn, the current whereabouts of Hideo Itami and the announcements of the sophomore efforts of both the United Kingdom Championship Tournament and the Mae Young Classic. Also, this week the boys discuss the results of their head-to-head picks for NXT Takeover: Chicago II and WWE Money in the Bank 2018!! Listen to the blow by blow accounting of these two Network-special! It is a busy episode covering a lot of ground this week, but as ever, it's the most honest and hard-hitting, infotaining podcast about #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews, and why? Because this is the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle!

Chick Magnet Punk'd in the Octagon, The Alpha Crow tries on fedoras at Target, Large Sullivan has no place else to go, Perry gets literary, a lot of people are climbing ladders and Daryn broadcasts from a haunted house! It's a wild week on the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle. Our heroes Daryn and Perry discuss UFC 225 & NJPW Dominion results, then go head-to-head to make picks for NXT Takeover: Chicago & WWE Money in the Bank 2018! There's all the usual silliness, the #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews that make us so famous, and breakdowns of tons of global wrestling, all in just this episode! Why did Dana fire the King of Pop!? Why is Edward Furlong mentioned? Is Big E making pancakes non-stop for 3 hours every Monday? Is life a cartoon? Tune in to the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle, The Whole Ref'n Show!!!

EPISODE #087 - BIG PODCAST VS LITTLE PODCAST
Friday Jun 08, 2018
Friday Jun 08, 2018
If you start to take Vienna, take Vienna. On a very special episode of The Whole Ref'n Show, our heroes Daryn and Perry tackle a sensitive subject in the world of wrestling. How do fans love a form of entertainment that sometimes doesn't love them back? Why would fans continue to be demeaned, bemoaned and on occasion outrightly lambasted by the very figures whom they admire and on whom they expend time, energy and hard-earned cash? And what exists in the mind of any professional, in any business, to look down on the most ardent of supporters and the most fervent of fans? In professional wrestling, there sometimes exists a rather deep and treacherous valley between the fans and the performers. Let there be no doubt that every Hall of Fame speech will thank the fans incessantly for giving the hallowed recipient that extra oomph that propelled them through all the highs and lows of their careers. But this is too often the amorphous "fan," the faceless mob of cheering "marks" (another term fans hate as much as wrestlers hate the word "jobber"). Too often the actual fan, the individual, the admirer, the idolizer is marginalized by the industry and its performers as being nothing more than "marks." These superfans are relegated to the pity pile of botherers, sycophants and even detractors by the very athletes and entertainers they love. And it seems the more devoted the fan, the more involved and engaged the fan, the stronger the effort to close them out becomes. On this episode, Daryn and Perry take the opportunity to shift gears with this program; instead of the usual #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews always received with gleefully open arms by our dear listeners; instead of the boys boosting and boasting all the praise and applause on the performers of the wrestling industry as they typically do, this time our heroes are sticking up for the wrestling fan. In response to a rather condescending address by Paul Lazenby and Don Callis of the "Killing the Town" podcast, directed at The Whole Ref'n Show and our guest last week, John Bring, Daryn and Perry defend this very podcast and the nature of the fan in relationship to the business of professional wrestling. This is a much more focused and refined version of the conversation about wrestling fandom and what is meant by the word "mark" that our heroes have been having throughout the life of this podcast. But having been assailed by Lazenby and Callis for being mere "marks" in a sea of unloved fans of pro-wrestling, The Whole Ref'n Show has decided to hereby draft the declaration of the rights of the wrestling fan! Liberte! Egalite! Fraternite! This is the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle.

It's a "family affair" this week on The Whole Ref'n Show, but only insomuch as it's not "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," nor is it "Gomer Pyle USMC" (but it'd probably be pretty funny if it were). But no! #dearlistener from the beginning, first cousin of Perry's and best friend of Daryn's, John Bring sits down with the boys to discuss his life as a wrestling fan. And that's not all. John Bring, former screenwriter from the CW's hit-show "Supernatural" and co-creator of underground comic book series "Penguins VS Possums," talks growing up with our heroes of the podcast and what led him to a career in Hollywood. Furthermore, hear tales of John's working with The Miz on set, his "beef" with Paul Lazenby of the "Killing the Town" podcast with Lance Storm and Don "Cyrus" Callis, and much, much, much, much more! This is a great conversation between lifelong friends, lifelong collaborators, lifelong wrestling fans and lifelong gigglers! John Bring needed to be on this podcast long before this episode, and we hope he will join us again very soon (certainly before another 86 episodes pass). In addition to the wonderful chat with John Bring, the boys also discuss Real 1 Enzo Amore's latest efforts (in the rap game), CM Punk and Colt Cabana's day in court being upon us, and the great success of Su Yung in capturing Impact Wrestling's Knockouts Championship! Daryn and Perry extend many congratulations to the Undead Bride and #friendoftheshow, Su Yung, on her high-profile victory. It's another DO NOT MISS episode of the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle, The Whole Ref'n Show!
