There's Rumble and Mayhem on The Whole Ref'n Show this week as Daryn and Perry discuss the beloved battle royale pay-per-view and and indy wrestling extravaganza too! Our heroes return to the tried and true head-to-head format, making picks for this weekend's NXT Takeover: Phoenix and the Royal Rumble! What will happen with the nasty remnants of #DIY? Will Aleister Black reclaim his NXT Championship? Who will be sitting ringside this time at Takeover? Who will win the TWO Royal Rumbles? And, ANd, AND, who will win The Whole Ref'n Show 3rd Annual Royal Rumble contest!? We will not know the answer to that until after the PPV, BUT you #dearlisteners can find out on THIS episode exactly what your magic number is for the Rumble contest! You have TWO chances to win this year, the men's Rumble match and the women's Rumble match. Hope you packed your swimtrunks, #dearlisteners, because we are headed across the pond to the land of fish n' chips, double-decker buses, unnecessary "o's" like in "favourite" and "colour," and gardens, lorries and damn fine pro-wrestling! The main focus of this week's episode is the NXT UK brand's first PPV (or Network Special, if you will), Takeover: Blackpool, and our heroes Daryn and Perry break it down match by match, blow by blow! It was a great show with the debut of NXT UK Tag Team Championships, and two other major UK titles being decided; not to mention, a rather spectacular debut! This is the ONLY place to hear a fair crack at all your most favorite and least favorite WWE Brits. The boys call it right down the middle as always, and the result is a fantastic look at WWE's version of English wrestling, what these athletes are like individually and collectively and what kind of show they put on when the spotlight comes a-calling! But also this week on The Whole Ref'n Show, the boys field rumors of WWE departures amid AEW's potential/immediate spending spree; and is AEW looking more like WCW each and every day? Well let me tell you something, #dearlisteners! Our heroes Daryn and Perry hate to say farewell, but it's that time to say goodbye to Mean Gene Okerlund... the boys bid adieu to the greatest voice in the history of pro-wrestling. But it's not all a bummer. This was quite a week! The NWA blew it open in Tennessee with a "Pop-Up Event" featuring a Hair vs Hair match between David Arquette and Jocephus Brody! Tommy Dreamer brings Raven to Impact! Wrestling. And in Jacksonville, Florida, "The Elite" announced the latest players in the biggest wrestling game of all, the "Let's Take Down Vinnie Mac" game, in the form of All Elite Wrestling (AEW)!!! Hear all about the announcements, the rumors, the speculation, the gesticulation and maybe some pre-emptive lamentation! And you, hey YOU! Yeah, YOU! Listen up to the repeat of all the details of The Whole Ref'n Show 3rd Annual Royal Rumble Contest! Don't you want to win!? But that's not all either! It's 2019, a new year, a new calendar, a new set of opportunities for all us insects called the human race... and there promises to be all sorts of new to The Whole Ref'n Show this year as well! But one thing that is not new and not going anywhere either is that this is the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle! Ringing in the new year, our heroes Daryn and Perry discuss Mauro Ranallo's Christmas Eve car crash, the announcement of WWE Women's Tag Team Championships, and they take a peek at New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 13 lineup (review to follow next week!). But the big to-do of this week's episode is actually not looking forward at 2019, but looking BACK at 2018, as Daryn and Perry introduce to you AND each other their picks for their Top 10 Favorite Wrestlers of the year 2018! This is an annual tradition, the 3rd annual to be exact; it's a fun time to listen to the boys discuss who they felt really made a difference in wrestling and in their little spheres of excitement over the past 365 days. It is a great conversation about wrestling, about what wrestling means to two grown men, about athleticism, excitement, storytelling, money, contracts, livelihoods, legacies and much more minutiae found only in the connective tissue of the wild world of wrestling! The Whole Ref’n Show time is here! Lots of #dearlisteners and cheer! On this XMas time episode, our heroes Daryn and Perry talk about the McMahon family’s “new direction,” and what that means (and if it means anything!). The boys spend the majority of the episode recounting the WWE TLC PPV (that’s right, Pay Per View... uh oh?) with the benefit of knowing what went down on the ensuing RAW & Smackdown as well! Hear about the “New” Daniel Bryan, a really great triple threat TLC main event between Becky Lynch, Asuka & Charlotte Flair, and a monkey fucking a football (I mean, Braun Strowman versus Baron Corbin!!!). Even with all the generosity of the giving season, the boys can only be so kind to WWE, and this slapdash wrestling show. BUT, our heroes call it right down the middle, so fair is fair, and this is the show to get ALL the #wrestlenewsandwrestleviews you need! What does 2019 hold for WWE & their new direction!? It's less than 2 weeks until Christmas, #dearlisteners, but you can always count on The Whole Ref'n Show to give you presents early and year-round! This is the 110th present our heroes have brought to your anxiously awaiting ears! And what a show it is! The bulk of this week's episode is blow-by-blow coverage of FEST Wrestling's Christmas present to us all, Pickle in the Tree 3! It's a show that featured a blistering grudge match between Wolfe Taylor and Vandal Ortagun, a mind-boggling multi-person ladder match (for the prized "pickle"), a TITLE CHANGE, some surprise guests, brutal and beautiful in-ring action, devastating out-of-ring action and more smashed doors than you can count! It was a bombastic affair in Gainesville, Florida last week, and Daryn and Perry were there! You have to hear about the most amazing independent wrestling in the wide world, and where else would you listen besides the ONLY wrestling podcast that calls it right down the middle!? You wouldn't. #everythingisdemonshit on this week's The Whole Ref'n Show. Our heroes Daryn and Perry are joined by Ronnie Rios and Kayden Greene of The Coda. It's a regular tag-team tango as these two titans of tussle take on our titular tyrants! That's right. It's a big 4-way conversation all about pro-wrestling, black rats, ring rats, ring gear, building rings, gimmicks, Randy Orton haircuts... and Stu Bennett. So, I'm afraid I've got some bad news! This is a great opportunity to learn all about the already long and meandering wrestling life and career of "The Music City Messiah" Kayden Greene, from watching Dusty Rhodes in Championship Wrestling from Florida to wrestling for Florida Championship Wrestling! And also find out when Ronnie Rios's entire life of wrestling turned "lethal" for him! These Demon Daddies were such excellent guests to have on the show. It's that time of year, the time when all the punk rockers (and the moon stompers?) and all the wrestlefans hit Hogtown for the biggest, baddest, raddest wrestling show in the world! Right on the tail of Episode 105, featuring a LIVE rendition of The Whole Ref'n Show from FEST17, our heroes Daryn and Perry bring you Episode 106 which features a blow-by-blow account of FEST Wrestling We Are Family 2! This episode takes a look at the many faces and names from the We Are Family 2 supershow. All 8 hours of that killer indy-wrestling event are discussed by the boys that call it right down the middle! What a show, featuring Effy, Jason Cade, Saieve al Sabah, Serpentico, Awaken, The Ugly Ducklings, Shotzi Blackheart, Leva Bates, Veda Scott, The Gymnasty Boys, the Monster Squad, B.R.U.H., the Metro Bros., Matt Cross, Simon Grimm, Arik Cannon, The Coda, the Clover Clan, Desmond Xavier, Darius Lockhart, The Carnies, Space Monkey, Beastly, Milo Beasley, Man-Scout Jake Manning and many, Many, MANY more!!! And the boys DO talk to Effy, as was the plan from the beginning... BUT, much to our surprise, NEW FEST Wrestling World Champion Jason Cade calls into The Whole Ref'n Show! And he does not take kindly to the FEST Family or Tony Weinbender's handling of his career in FEST Wrestling. And he lets us all have it. Jason Cade is very candid, very heated and very specific in his hatred and disdain for all those that have "kept him down." For a guy who told us that he did not have much to say, this is quite a lengthy conversation as Cade goes back to the well over and over to repeat how he has been treated so unfairly everywhere he goes in wrestling, but particularly at FEST. When Daryn and Perry get Cade off the phone, they can finally take Effy off of hold and talk to the rightful FEST Champion! Effy sounds down and out, but defiant as always. The Feminist Icon's fire grows over the course of the conversation until he finishes with some real vitriol from the thief, Jason Cade. #dearlisteners, it has always been the complete and total pleasure of The Whole Ref'n Show to be so intimately and definitively linked to FEST Wrestling, but this episode really stands out as the former Champion and the current Champion both take to this very forum to have their voices heard! Jason's braggadocio and Effy's despondency, Jason's poor-mouthing and Effy's inner furnace, it is ALL here on display for your ears. This is an incredible piece of pro-wrestling audio legacy, of history in the making.
